For the past week news stations haven't really dwelled on the death of Anna Nicole Smith or Britney Spears who is clearly disturbed . Anna Nicole Smith was laid to rest on March 3, 2007 next to son in the Bahamas. The DNA results of who her baby's father is has not yet been released. Why are the DNA results taking so long some people might wonder if the test was taking some time ago? All of these questions are still no answered.
When Briteny Spears first shaved all of her hair of she checked in and out of rehab centers many times and she terrorized her x-husband's (Kevin Ferderline) car. Could all of these events just be a publicity stunt to bring more attention to over-rated celebrities? Who could forget about Paris Hilton and her constant drunk driving. These celebrities will never stop their tactics if we keep giving them the attention that they are longing for. Instead of giving them all of the attention, lets try to pay more attention to our troops in Iraq and politics so we can help make this world a better place.

Young People vs Going to Iraq

Since the War in Iraq received so much coverage when the troops first went into Iraq, people don't really seem concerned about what is going on now. Most people just want to know when the troops are going to be coming back home. Many troops risked their lives to fight for us and we as Americans don't seem to appreciated it. A couple of months ago when troops were suppose to come back home from their tour, their tour was extended and they where the last to know. Troops come back home with their jobs gone and having no where to live. All of these things affect people's choice on whether or not they should sign up for the army, marines, navy, etc.
Most people wonder why younger people are not interest in more important issues like the war in Iraq and politics. The reason being is because it doesn't interested us. Giving the option on watching a story about a famous entertainer or watching something on Iraq, they would easily choose watching something on an entertainer. Even though it might not be right to not really be concerned with the war in Iraq and politics seeing how badly troops are treated when they come back to America why risk going through the same thing. With President Bush lying about why troops were sent to Iraq in the first place who is there to tell us the truth. If people don't care about our troops now what major event will take place for us to care later?
Britney Spears vs. the War in Iraq

About two weeks ago Britney Spears shaved off all of her hair and it seemed as if the public couldn't get enough of it. No matter what stations you tuned into there was something being said about her. If it wasn't recaps about her infamous marriage to Kevin Federline it was about the way she handled her children. Some people might ask why watch the same stories about Britney Spears and other celebrities who are on the verge of losing their minds when they can be watching something more informative like coverage on the War in Iraq.
When troops were first sent to Iraq, the War in Iraq was all we heard about on the news, but now it seems as if the War in Iraq has taken a backseat to everything else that is going on in the world. We have troops fighting for us in Iraq and all we seem to care about is what A-List celebrity is seeing who and what new trend is in. When the troops come back home from Iraq some of them are unable to find jobs and proper places to live. All of these issues should be featured on the news more rather than entertainment news.

2008 Presidential Race
Even though celebrities in the entertainment world receive a lot of television coverage when something major takes place in there lives, other important things such as the 2008 Presidential race also received a lot of coverage also. During the time when both Barack Obama and Sen. Hilary Clinton both announced that they will be running for the president's position in 2008 they got into a little misunderstanding.
The mishap started between Clinton and Obama when David Geffen, a Hollywood star who is in favor for Barack Obama made statements that criticized the Hilliary campaign. The statements included "Everybody in politics lies, but they (Hilliary and Bill Clinton) do it with such ease, it's troubling." This statement obviously bothered the Clinton campaign because they sent a statement to Obama telling him to let David Geffen go from his campaign and return his money to him. Obama's campaign then released a statement which stated its "ironic that the Clinton's had no problem with David Geffen when he was raising them $18 million and sleeping at their invitation in the Lincoln Bedroom." This then created a mini-like-feud between the two campaign's where they went back and forth releasing statements. The news station took this to their advantage and made sure they covered everything that was going on when every statement was released. While all of this was going on America watched.
Maybe the media broad casted this story too much and as soon as something else occurred, which happened to be the death of Anna Nicole Smith, the public grasp to that story. To keep the public interest the news stations gave them what wanted and kept covering the Anna Nicole case. Maybe America just likes to be informed on the new drama going on in the world (ex. the Obama vs Clinton feud and Anna Nicole Smith), so doesn't it make sense for the new stations to give us what we are urging for?

Too Much Coverage???

Covering a particular story too much can also be a turn off. It may then cause people to seek other things to fulfill their informational desires. This can be the case for the news coverage of the war in Iraq before the death of Anna Nicole Smith. Maybe the reason why Anna Nicole Smith received more news coverage was because the war in Iraq dominated the air waves and people just wanted a change. Research shows that on the week of January 29, 2007 the war in Iraq received 21% of the news coverage.
Another assumption on why Anna Nicole Smith received so much news coverage is because of the age gap. Usually older individuals tend to watch the news more than younger people. Younger people are more interested in the entertainment news, and to attract younger people into watching the news, news producers give the public what they want. So as a result of that Anna Nicole Smith received more coverage than more important stories like the war in Iraq.
